Comparing Yourself to Others?

Jul 23, 2024

Do you often feel down when you see other riders doing better? This feeling is called the Comparison Trap, and it can make you lose confidence and joy in your riding. But don't worry – we’re here to help you avoid it and turn comparisons into something positive! 🌟

How to Avoid the Comparison Trap:

1. Be Aware: Notice what makes you compare yourself to others. Just being aware can help you avoid the trap.

2. Find Your Triggers:

  • 👥  People: Are there certain people whose progress makes you feel bad about your own? Think about who they are.
  • 📍 Places: Are there specific places where you feel more competitive or insecure? Recognize these locations.
  • 📱 Personal Habits: Do certain thoughts or actions lead you to compare yourself to others? For example, scrolling through Instagram and seeing other riders’ achievements can often be a trigger.

3. Check the Facts: Challenge your assumptions. Everyone has different starting points, circumstances, and resources. Comparing yourself to others is often based on false ideas that aren’t helpful or true.

4. Compare Without Judging: Not all comparison is bad. It's the judgment that follows which causes harm. Compare yourself to others without feeling bad. For example, seeing someone jump higher can inspire you to set new goals.

Turn Comparison into Growth

Avoiding the comparison trap means being aware, challenging false ideas, and using comparisons to inspire you rather than judge yourself. This way, you can stay motivated and confident, enjoying your riding and improving at your own pace.
