Have You Tapped into Your 'Why' Power?" 🧐
Sep 29, 2023Have you ever struggled with motivation?
If so, you're not alone. Motivation comes and goes, but there's a powerful tool that can keep your fire burning even when the going gets tough: Your "Why."”
It is important to understand your your deep-seated reasons for pursuing your goals and dreams. By tapping into your "Why Power," you can stay motivated and focused, regardless of external challenges.
1. Start with WHY
Let's begin with the fundamental question:
Why do you do what you do?
Knowing your "Why" is like having a compass guiding your journey.
The lesson here is clear: Every action should have a purpose, an intention. Starting with "Why" is key, whether you're embarking on a new project, pursuing a goal, or listening to a podcast. Understanding the "Why" gives you the motivation to keep going, even when things could get tough.
2. Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic Motivation
Now, let's dig deeper into your "Why."
Is it intrinsic or extrinsic?
Intrinsic motivation means you do something because you genuinely enjoy it, find fulfillment, or have a deep desire to do it. Extrinsic motivation, on the other hand, is driven by external factors, such as obligation, financial gain, or societal pressure.
To supercharge your motivation, transform your language. Swap "I have to" with "I get to" or "I want to."
It might feel strange at first, but it reframes your perspective.
For instance, instead of saying, "I have to go to work," say, "I get to go to work because I want to support my passion for horses." This shift can unleash your intrinsic motivation and make even normal tasks more purposeful.
3. The Seven Levels of Why
To dig deeper into your “Why”, try the "Seven Levels of Why" exercise. Start with your goal or desire and ask "Why" seven times in succession. Each time you answer, go deeper into your motivations. This exercise stops you from going around in circles and helps you find your deepest motivation.
4. Use your “Why”
Once you've figured out your "Why," make it real. Write it down, put it somewhere you can see it, and remind yourself every day. Your "Why" is like a guiding star, showing you what to do and helping you keep going.
Your "Why" is the key to unwavering motivation. Start with "Why," distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and dive deep into your "Why" using the Seven Levels of Why exercise. When you tap into your "Why Power," you'll have a strong determination that doesn't fade quickly, unlike short bursts of motivation or willpower.
Discovering your "Why" is just one of the valuable exercises we do in our Group Coaching Program, PEPP. To learn more about PEPP and how it can transform your mindset and performance, visit www.mindeq.eu/pepp
