What If You Stopped Overthinking Every Decision?

Mar 20, 2025

What if you stopped over thinking every decision?

Not just the “I guess I’ll go with this” kind of decision-making—but the deep, confident trust that whatever choice you make, you can handle the outcome.

For many riders, decisions—big and small—bring hesitation. Should you add a stride or leave one out? Enter that next level? Try a new approach in training? The fear of making the wrong choice can feel paralyzing.

But here’s the truth:
๐Ÿ’ก No decision is ever 100% right or wrong—but every decision moves you forward.

What’s Really Holding You Back?
If decision-making feels hard, it’s not because you don’t know what to do—it’s because of the fear of making a mistake. Here are three common mental blocks:

1. Fear of the Wrong Choice
You worry about what might go wrong—will your horse lose confidence? Will you mess up your round? Will you regret your decision?

๐Ÿ”„ Reframe it: Every choice teaches you something. Even a so-called “wrong” decision gives you valuable experience to make better ones in the future.

2. Overanalyzing Every Option
You get stuck weighing every possible outcome, trying to find the safest path. But waiting too long keeps you from taking action.

๐ŸŽฏ Try this: Instead of searching for the “best” choice, make a choice—and trust yourself to adjust as needed.

3. The Worst-Case Scenario Spiral
You imagine every possible thing that could go wrong—until making no decision feels like the safest option.

๐Ÿ›  Shift your mindset: Say your fear out loud. Then ask: If this happened, what would I do? When you have a plan for even the worst-case scenario, it suddenly feels far less intimidating.
