Your talent isn’t the problem—this is. 🛑
Mar 05, 2025What if you fully believed in your talent?
Not just the “I guess I’m okay at this” kind of confidence—but the deep, unshakable belief that you have something special to offer in the saddle.
For many riders, this question sparks both excitement and doubt. We’re often told that talent is something you either have or don’t. But here’s the truth:
Talent isn’t just what you have—it’s what you do with it.
What’s Holding You Back?
If lack of talent isn’t the issue, what is? Here are three common mindset traps that might be keeping you from reaching your full potential:
1. Fear of Failure
Do you hesitate to push for better transitions or avoid tricky exercises because you’re afraid of messing up? Many riders hold back because they think failure means they aren’t talented enough.
Reframe it: Failure isn’t proof that you lack talent—it’s proof that you’re learning.
2. Perfectionism
If you believe talent means never making mistakes, you’ll stay in your comfort zone and avoid taking risks. But that’s not where growth happens.
Try this: Celebrate small, messy progress. Talent develops in the moments when you try, fail, adjust, and try again.
3. The Comparison Trap
It’s easy to look at other riders and think, “They’re more talented than I am—why even bother?” But comparison isn’t a motivator—it’s a distraction.
Shift your focus: Instead of worrying about others, ask yourself: What can I do better than I did yesterday?
